  1. Afraid of discarding private papers in the trash?  Invest in a shredder to properly destroy documents.

  2. Create a filing system for documents that you want to save.  Even if you're the only person in the house who can understand it.

  3. If you install wide shelves on the wall above your desk, then you can eliminate some of the pesky clutter that collects on your primary workspace.

  4. Who needs a machine for every home office job when you can buy gadgets that are designed to multitask (i.e. printer/scanner/copier models)?

  5. Add magazine storage files for easy classification.

  6. You don't want to feel like you're taking your life in your hands every time you wander into your home office, so we suggest using grommets to keep cords in order.  Or, you can just invest in wireless equipment.

  7. Legal documents, such as tax returns, should be kept forever; however, backup documentation like receipts and statements, should be purged after seven years.

  8. We know it's hard, but try to clean your desk every day.  As papers, notebooks and office supplies spill across your desk, you're likely to feel a rush of stress the next time you sit at your desk.

  9. To avoid an explosion of paper, scan documents that you want to keep and save them on your computer.  Chances are, you'll never miss the hard copies.

  10. Display personal knick-knacks, photos and art for workday inspiration.  Your home office should beckon you inside to experience a happy, productive day on the job.
